What makes a strap maker good? A good strap maker has a design sense, has an intimate knowledge on the raw material, as in this case, the leather, is passionate about the brand history, is able to craft the strap with masterful skill, is head strong in quality and precision in each minor details.

James, the designer behind L'invitta Legione has all that personality traits and possesses exceptional skill in leather and silversmith. The Panerai straps crafted by the L'invitta Legione are made to exact the vintage strap; from the position of the stitch knot behind each strap, the leather type, build structure of the strap, and use of the buckle,  are all carefully studied and handmade with master craftsmanship.

Each Vintage strap is further treated with salt water in order to naturally age the leather, making the leather soft by touch, and most importantly, it enhances a very smooth and natural Vintage look of the strap which goes beautifully well with any Panerai, Ennebi or even the Helson diving instruments.

A lot of people asked us their leather straps are smelling funny, especially after a good work out of sweat, and if there are ways to take care of the leather. Are the straps water proof?

From our experience, there are only 2 things we do to maintain a healthy leather watch strap:

1. avoid storing the strap in humid area
2. avoid direct sun

We want the leather strap to age nicely, we like the vintage outlook of a L'invitta Legione strap, and we sure are too lazy to apply any leather conditioner. So we leave the straps completely alone without any maintenance whatsoever.



As you can see from the video, we dropped the Panerai into the water and we left it to dry naturally. The strap did not smell weird, there was no strange odour emitting from the leather, and the entire strap remained intact and strong to this day.

We were digging up the old watches and found a few Bronzo watches; the Panerai Bronzo PAM 507, the Ennebi Fondale Bronzo, and the Helson Shark Diver. Each watch has oxidised very differently, among which the Ennebi has a very even layer of oxidisation.

So once again, we dropped the watches (minusing the Pam 507) into the water. We were curious if the surface of the watches would change even more.  



After a night of submerging under the water, the two watches came out unchanged, or at least we didn't notice any changes from our naked eyes. And for your interest, the L L straps remain unchanged as well, we couldn't smell anything out of the ordinary, nor were there any formation of mold on the surface.

In addition to the vintage collection, L'invitta Legione has a line of Panerai strap called the Contemporary series.

The Contemporary collection uses the squalo leather, which literally means the shark skin. This collection is a nice change from the regular vintage straps, it focuses on applying bold colour to contrast the Panerai watch, and the shark leather is heavily treated for aquatic activities such as scuba diving. If you do a lot of water activities especially out at the beach, the shark skin is a good choice of leather to use. The squalo is a tough skin and durable against salt abrasion.

A little Panerai strap recommendation: the Vincenzo Martellotta LSM022 from the L'invitta Legione.

The LSM022 is made from lush soft premium leather,  the strap is aged very delicately, thick triple fold layer, brushed GPF grey buckle, dirty light yellow complexion with clear visibility of leather pores on the surface texture.

though the straps are designed for the Panerai watches, but from our experience, the straps they look good on other large watches as well. in this video we use a Seiko Marine Master to illustrate our point. The Marine Master has a 21mm strap width which in our opinion it's too small, so we use a 24mm strap for this diver's watch.
